The Philippines Today: POVERTY

Poverty is defined as the pronounced deprivation of well-being.  It is the inability to satisfy one's basic needs because one lacks income to buy services or from lack of access to services. It means the state of one with insufficient resources. It may cover a range from extreme want of necessities to an absence of material comforts.

"According to the data from National Statistical Coordination Board, more than one-quarter (26.5%) of the population falls below the poverty line in 2009. This figure is a much lower figure as compared to the 33.1% in 1991. The decline has been slow and uneven, much slower than neighboring countries who experienced broadly similar numbers in the 1980s, such as People's Republic of China (PRC), Thailand, Indonesia (which poverty level lies at 8.5%) or Vietnam (13.5%). This shows that the incidence of poverty has remained significantly high as compared to other countries for almost a decade now. The unevenness of the decline has been attributed to a large range of income brackets across regions and sectors, and also uncontrolled population growth.

The government planned to eradicate poverty as stated in the Philippines Development Plan (PDP). The PDP for the next six years are an annual economic growth of 7-8 % and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Under the MDGs, Philippines committed itself to halving extreme poverty from a 33.1% in 1991 to 16.6 % by 2015."
POVERTY
In the Philippines, poverty is one of the most serious economic problems that significantly need resolution. In every year, the Philippines fall deeper below the minimum level of income deemed enough in a given country as it increases in rate for the past decades. The marginalized sectors continually grow in number as more Filipinos encounter this tragic phenomenon.

It has been identified that the cause of this poverty are unemployment, corruption, rapid population growth and many more.

UNEMPLOYMENT

The Philippines faces difficulty in job creation due to its inability to attract more foreign, direct investments. The poor investment climate limited the Philippines ability to grow and create jobs. Thus, unemployment occurs because of the high rate of job seekers compared to the low employment opportunities.

CORRUPTION

Also, Political leaders engage in corruption that leads to disintegration of values and justice in the society. The rich becomes richer and the poor becomes poorer. Power to serve is used in an immoral concept and self-interest to be higher from others is brought from trust.

OVER POPULATION

Misinformation and imprudence in the ability to provide for necessities among families is neglected. Rapid population grows, a battle of survival of the fittest starts.

Through the never-ending poverty issues, there have been consistent reports that more Filipinos have no comfortable and permanent shelter to dwell. They usually experience demolitions and deconstruction in unlawful areas where they reside. There are also those who suffer from malnutrition and different illnesses due to inadequate food supply, low immune system and filthy surroundings that leads to the increased number in death among them. There are also those who are deprived of education. Children go through long hours of walking even boating just to go to school. The schools are not also comfortable places to learn and materials cannot supply for better learning. And the most terrible report that becomes a day to day occurrence is about the innocents who lost their lives through crimes and offenses due to lack of financial stability of others.

Linking it to the world, the Philippines cope up to this observable fact at a very slow pace. Its neighboring countries developed solutions and garnered economic stability over the years and had already stopped the cause of poverty among their people.

Living in a third world country,
I can say that beyond my timely existence are the misfortunes of others.
It is clear on my part that there is a need
of an aid in the economic plights of the country.
Poverty, being one of the greatest economic problems of the country,
a deep retro action to the welfare of the populace.
It becomes a great threat of the country as it slowly kill
and destroy the lives of people as well as the economy as time pass by.
Personally, I believe that the Philippines have all its resources
to survive and advance. It possesses all the abilities to survive
and be among the best countries in the world.
The country can stop all its plights and move to higher grounds.

It holds its naturalistic beauty that can attract many foreign investors
and boost industry and employment. It also has its rich agricultural
lands that can help greatly in the import-export of production
in the Philippines. And of course, the man power of the Filipinos, being
hard working and full of determination best exemplify its human resource.
The Philippines can solve its problems and it alone can move
towards greatness and be the best. I recommend that the people see
that there is a chance of a better country in one’s hands. A rightful leader
with values to serve and not to be served must be found in order
to be guidedto greatness. Everyone must learn to be humane
and be united in pushing each other to be on top.

In every problem is a solution.
All we need is to have a stand.
A belief that possible is in everything
and that we can achieve if we dream.

I am a Filipino and I dream of a better Philippines.
         I choose Philippines.
